Hey! I'm Shaurya Thapa
A multimedia journalist with newsroom experience and skills ranging from writing to research to sound/photo editing. My interests include pop culture, cinema, music, art, and everything that comes in between.

Here’s My Story
Tracing my familial roots in Nepal, born and brought up in India and now based in London, I think I was destined to be "a man of culture" (hope that doesn't sound too tacky, eh). Having worked as a freelancer and a regular contributor for publications like Screen Rant, Time Out, Metro, AV Club, etc, I'm convinced that journalism is my calling (even if it isn't, I doubt I'm good at anything else). Scroll below for my writing and multimedia work.

Music
(Reviews, Interviews, Features)

Weekly music reviews along with news and feature pieces on the Indian independent music scene.

Artist interviews with Bawari Basanti (Delhi based folk fusion singer), Shan Vincent De Paul (Canadian-Sri Lankan rapper), Madame Gandhi (American-Indian producer and singer) and Rishabh Seen (frontman of the band Sitar Metal)

Content curator for Delhi-based music fest Groove Gully's website, writing a large chunk of the site's informative articles on music.

"Hip-Hop in the Crossfire" is a multimedia long read, several months in the making, that found me examining the Israel-Palestine conflict through a hip-hop lens. My sources included rappers from the region as well as pro-Palestine and pro-Israel artistic voices from the UK, Canada, Iran, Afghanistan, and so on. The story includes original interviews, concert recordings, and curated playlists.

Podcasts and Interviews
For the London-based film website Borrowing Tape, I have been a regular host on Behind the Lens - a podcast that features interviews with mainstream and indie directors. My interviewees include Oscar winners, film festival standouts, and blockbuster filmmakers.

Canadian director behind the French-language dark comedy Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person. An acclaim debut feature, it won several accolades at the 2024 Venice Film Festival.

Podcast
BhindiWire
In 2021, I ran the movie-centric podcast Bhindi Wire in which I, my colleagues and featured guests talk about trends in global and Indian cinema and TV. The name is a play on the word Indie Wire (the American film publication).

Apart from discussing new releases and predicting awards, I and my co-hosts occasionally had guests over. A case in point is the episode with MARCO KYRIS, Nicolas Cage's stand-in for movies like FACE-OFF and NATIONAL TREASURE.
